Abstract

1,218,244. Vinyl chloride-epoxy comonomers. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd., and KANSAI PAINT CO. Ltd. 26 April, 1968, No. 20038/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B2] A fusion coating composition comprises a copolymer of 95-99À5% by wt. of vinyl chloride or a mixture of at least 80% of vinyl chloride with not more than 20% of a copolymerizable monomer and 5-0À5% of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing at least one glycidyl group, e.g. glycidyl acrylate, methacrylate or alkyl maleate, or allyl or styryl glycidyl ether, having a degree of polymerization of 400-700 and 20-35 p.h.r. of a plasticizer. The third monomer when present may be vinyl acetate (exemplified), an alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, styrene or vinylidene chloride. The polymers are obtained by emulsion technique with a water-soluble or Redox initiator in the presence of trichloroethylene. The products are mixed with plasticizer and optionally PVC, organo-tin or epoxy stabilizers, an anhydride, amine, e.g. diamino diphenylsulphone, or boron trifluoride complex curing agent, pigment or filler, to produce fusion coating compositions.
