Abstract

1378434 Vinyl chloride resin compositions KANEGAFUCHI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 16 March 1972 [16 March 1971 12 April 1971] 12455/72 Headings C3P and C3G A composition comprises a vinyl chloride polymer containing at least 80% vinyl chloride and a processing aid formed from (I) polymethyl methacrylate or a copolymer of a major amount of methyl methacrylate with another alkyl acrylate or methacrylate and up to 20% of other monomers and (II) a copolymer of a minor amount of methyl methacrylate, a major amount of another alkyl acrylate or methacrylate and up to 20% of other monomers either by mixing latices of I and II and coagulating or by polymerizing II in the presence of I. In the examples polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride or a vinyl chloride /vinyl acetate copolymer is compounded with a processing aid wherein (I) is methyl methacrylate homopolymer or copolymer with nbutyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate or ethyl acrylate and optionally with acrylonitrile, and (II) is a copolymer of ethyl acrylate or methacrylate or n-butyl acrylate or methacrylate with methyl methacrylate and optionally acrylonitrile. Other additives include tin octyl mercaptide, soya-bean oil epoxide, butyl stearate, aliphatic acid polyglycol ester and a methyl methacrylate / butadiene / styrene copolymer impact modifier. Comparative examples wherein the processing aid is prepared either by polymerization of I in a latex of II, or by blending of dry powders of I and II, or by polymerization of the monomers of I and II together are also described.
