Abstract

1,218,136. Stabilizing PVC. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 18 June, 1969 [8 July, 1968], No. 32486/68. Heading C3P. PVC is stabilized with a composition obtained by coagulating an aqueous latex of an organic synthetic polymer in the presence of an aqueous suspension of a basic lead salt using as coagulant a water-soluble salt of an alkaline earth metal the amount of synthetic polymer in the latex being 20-80% of the combined weight of polymer and basic lead salt. In the example, polyethylene is used as the polymer. PVC and polystyrene are also mentioned. The lead salt is the tribasic sulphate, dibasic stearate or basic carbonate. Calcium formate is the preferred coagulant. Calcium and lead stearates and montan ester wax are also added to the PVC composition.
