Abstract

1,217,879. Control of D.C. motors. SEVCON ENG. Ltd. 26 Sept., 1969 [27 Sept., 1968], No. 46046/68. Heading H2J. A float is disposed in a reservoir tank of a battery-powered industrial truck, the tank providing a source of hydraulic fluid for a mastextending ram. Fluid is supplied to the ram by a pump driven by a D.C. motor which is energized from the battery in dependance of the mark-space ratio of a pulsing controller. Movement of the float varies the mark-space ratio to limit the motor speed thereby achieving an optimum tilt speed for the height of the load. The float movement is also employed to vary the mark-space ratio of a pulsing controller for the traction motor. When the mast is being extended, the float falls to increase the resistance of associated potentiometers and to reduce the frequency of firing pulses for thyristors forming part of the pulsing controllers. The motors may be of the series or shunt types and adapted for field or armature control. A modification employs variable pulse-width controllers having main and commutating thrysistors.
