Abstract

1,217,818. Luminescent materials. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968], No. 31024/69. Heading C4S. A phosphor comprises a divalent Eu activated alkaline earth metal orthophosphate having the formula where x+y+r+q=3; 1.6 # x # 0À7; 2.3 # y # 1.4 ; 0À1 1 # r # 0.005 and 0À15 # q # 0. The phosphor is prepared by heating twice in N 2 and H 2 a mixture of CaHPO 4 , MgNH 4 PO 4 , MgCO 3 , Eu 2 O 3 and optionally MnNH 4 PO 4 in quantities which provide a slight excess of phosphate. The phosphor is used in C.R.T.'s and Hg discharge lamps for document reproduction and plant growth.
