Armatures and field magnets, cooling and ventilating.-In machines in which the outer member or both members rotate, ventilating - passages are formed in the members, and in the passages a between the poles c in the outer member vanes f are arranged to drive the air outwards into an annular casing h; the vanes are pivoted at their inner edges on rods g carried by brackets e secured upon rings d so as automatically to take up the position required for either direction of running, their positions being determined by stops e<1>. The air escapes under the edges of the casing h. The device is applicable to the machine described in Specification 105,942.
