Abstract

[Also in Division G4] A circuit for monitoring the current in a load (e.g. lamps LT 1 , LT 2 ) comprises a resistor Ri in series with the load, the resistor being shunted by the series arrangement of a semi-conductor rectifier CR 1 and an indicator lamp L 1 which provides an on-off indication of partial opencircuit load. In the circuit shown, lamps LT 1 , LT 2 are the tail lamps of a road vehicle, the threshold voltage of rectifier CR 1 being such that indicator lamp L 1 will be lit if the filaments of both tail lamps are intact but substantially extinguished by the failure of one tail lamp filament. A second rectifier CR 2 prevents damage to the indicator lamp L 1 by the initial surge when the tail lamps are turned on.
