Abstract
1,217,561. Fe-Cr alloys. AIR REDUCTION CO. Inc. May 7, 1968 [May 8, 1967; April 19, 1968], No.21578/67. Headings C7A and C7D. Fe-Cr alloys consist, by weight, of Fe and impurites (Ti, V, Zr, O, S, P) - balance The alloys may be austenitic (Cr 14-20%, Ni 8-12%), ferritic (Cr 10-28%), or martensitic (Cr 8-16%, Ni 2-10%). The low levels of the Pb &c. and Zn and Sb impurities are achieved by electron beam heating of molten alloy under a pressure # 10<SP>-1</SP> Torr. In particular, the alloy may be flowed across a cooled hearth in two pressure zones, the pressure in the first being #10<SP>-2</SP> Torr and in the second being # 10<SP>-3</SP> Torr.
