Abstract

A programme control system for knitting machines has two storage units for each control function to be performed, having a storage capacity corresponding to the number of needles in the knitting machine, arranged so that one set of storage units accepts into storage control pulses from a programme medium while the other set emits control pulses to needle controlling magnets. As shown, a magnetic tape 26, having recorded thereon pulses in multiple tracks, corresponding in number to the cam boxes to be controlled, is read by a unit 27 and the pulses transmitted via an amplifier 28 to a switching unit 29. The pulses from the switching unit are fed to two sets of memory units 30-33, each set comprising two memory units, since in the machine described, Figs. 1-4 (not shown), two cam boxes are provided on the carriage. A timing signal generator 6, fastened to the carriage, emits a pulse on passage of an individual trick of the needle bed and a continuous train of pulses is fed via amplifier 34 and a switching unit 35 to empty the filled memory units, say 31,33, through a diode distributing unit 36, pulse shapers 37, and amplifiers 38 to actuate the appropriate control magnets 16. The empty memory units 30, 32 are meanwhile filled from the tape 26, movement of which is stopped by an automatic device, not shown, triggered by a signal released by the memory units 30,32 when full.
