Abstract
1,217,242. Separating acid from sugar fermentation broths. T. KOBAYASHI, and I. NAKAMURA. 5 Jan., 1968 [7 Jan., 1967], No. 737/68. Heading C2C. A process for separating the organic acid from a broth of an organic acid fermentation of raw sugar materials, comprises adding basic lead carbonate to the filtrate of the said broth, precipitating the resulting lead salt of the organic acid at between room temperature and 100‹ C., separating the salt and double decomposing it by adding an alkali metal or ammonium carbonate or bicarbonate solution so as to form the respective alkali metal or ammonium organic acid salt solution and precipitated basic lead carbonate and either concentrating the said organic acid salt solution to produce crystals of the said organic acid salt, or passing the salt solution through an ion-exchanger so as to convert the salt solution into free acid solution and concentrating the free acid solution to produce crystals of the organic acid. The precipitated lead carbonate may be recycled to the first step of the process. An example describes the separation of itaconic acid from black-strap molasses.
