Abstract

121,720. Bartels, K. E. H. Dec, 22, 1917, [Convention date]. Concrete vessels; composite vessels; frames and framing.-A ship constructed wholly or in part of reinforced concrete has the bottom made as a parallel-chorded lattice girder 1, 2 of concrete with both vertical and intersecting diagonal slab-shaped braces 3, 4. These braces slope in a fore-and-aft direction, as shown, and may also slope in a transverse direction thereby forming rows of pyramidal members between the top and bottom chords of the girder. Stem and stern parts 5, 6 with collision bulkheads 12, 13 are formed integral with the bottom as a two-hinged arch, with the longitudinal beams 7 of the deck, or the deck 8 itself, and the longitudinal &c. beams 10 of the sides forming tensile and compressive ties. Instead of being formed of concrete, the ship's sides 9 may be constructed of steel plating or wood planking.
