Abstract
1,217,161. Aircraft ejector seats. J. MARTIN. 19 Feb., 1968 [17 March, 1967; 19 April, 1967], Nos. 12777/67 and 18055/67. Heading B7G. An ejection seat (e.g. for aircraft) comprises a seat frame 1 on which is adjustably mounted a seat pan, an ejection gun 3 on the seat frame to at least initiate seat ejection, the ejection being assisted by at least one rocket motor (and may be a rocket motor pack 5) mounted on the seat and either pivoted to brackets 4 on the seat pan, or slidable fore and aft in slots in the brackets 4 so that the thrust line of the rocket motors is altered (e.g. by an angle α from C to AB) by means (e.g. a follower 12 on an arm 11 in a slot 16 between flanges 15 on a cam 14 on the seat frame) responsive to the relative movement between the seat frame and the seat pan. The thrust line of the rocket motors may be altered by rocking or sliding either the whole rocket pack, or only the nozzles 8. The cam 14 may be placed higher up on the seat frame, and be engaged by a follower 12 on a bell crank coupled by a link to the rear end of the rocket motor pack, Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively the cam 14 may be replaced by a rack (36), Fig. 4 (not shown), engaged by a pinion (35) on the seat pan the rotation of which is transmitted e.g. by a Bowden cable (37), to a screw jack (30) mounted under the rear end of the seat pan, and connected to the rear end of the rocket motor pack.
