Abstract

1,166,258. Seats. COX OF WATFORD Ltd. 17 Nov., 1966 [18 Nov., 1965], No. 49093/65. Heading A4J. [Also in Division F2] A seat frame is formed with two spaced apart L-shaped members 51, 52, supported on front and rear mountings, the rear mounting being deformable to permit limited movement about the front mounting during forward deceleration. The seat may be adjustably or rigidly mounted on a frame 23, which is non-elastically bent to dissipate the impact energy of a collision. A fore and aft adjustment is effected by sliding the seat along rods 24 to positions determined by holes in plate 28. In another form, the rear end of a frame 23 is secured at an adjustable height in notches (62, Figs. 6-8, not shown). The seat may tilt forwardly about a front pivotal connection to the frame 23 and be secured in the position of use by releasable catch (30, Figs. 4a-c, not shown). Alternatively, the back-rest is collapsible forwardly about a pivot (73, Fig. 9, not shown). Rigid polyurethane foam 77 covering a deformable sheet metal plate 76 is provided to prevent injury on impact with the rear of the back-rest.
