Abstract

875,049. Seats and doors for vehicles. GRIEFF, M. J. Nov. 19, 1959 [Dec. 1, 1958], No. 39234/59. Class 103(2). A vehicle seat 1, Fig. 1, is rigidly connected to the door 2 which opens in a direction transversely of the vehicle so that the seat slides through the door opening. The movement of the seat is effected by a rack 3 and pinion 4 driven by an electric motor controlled from a switch incorporated in the door handle 6. The seat is mounted on a frame 5 in such a manner that it may be adjusted forwardly or backwardly. A safety catch 7 inside the door, also actuatable from the outside by a key, may be provided to prevent accidental or unauthorised actuation of the mechanism. In the embodiment of Fig. 3, the door is in two parts the upper part 2b being hinged to the roof and operable by a rod whilst the lower part 2a is slidable transversely with the door by a hydraulic system of telescoping tubes 10. The systems may be operable pneumatically, mechanically or by electric motors, and the doors and seat may return under gravity or spring pressure. In a still further embodiment described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown) the door and seat are carried by a lever pivotal about a horizontal axis extending longitudinally of the vehicle, so that the seat and door move outwardly and downwardly.
