Abstract

1,217,058. Draining water from sills of sliding windows. A. KNAG A.S. 17 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 59999/68. Heading E1J. A window sill constructed to drain water from the sashless panes 24, 25 sliding in guiding grooves in a P.V.C. or other non-metallic sill of profile form located in an outer building wall 40 has its profile formed to define at the inside face of the pane 24 and adjacent the lower portion of the groove, a chamber 26 communicating with the outside atmosphere through an opening 42 adjacent the outside of the wall, the bottom of the groove having a hole 33 for directing the water to the chamber 34. The chamber 26 is formed by the width of the groove at its bottom portion being wider than the pane thickness, and its upper edges are formed with lips 30, 31 bearing against opposite sides of the pane and the chamber 26 has an upper lateral expansion 35 of the groove located below the tongue 31 and communicates with the frame chamber 34 and the outside atmosphere through the hole 36 in the wall of the said extension 35. A supporting plug 43 preferably of metal supports the weight of the panes on a lower portion of the sill which itself is supported by ribs 44 on the wall 40. The portion of the sill disposed inwardly of the groove forms an insulation chamber 38. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the chamber is an inner chamber separated from the sill opening by an outer chamber, the chambers being divided by the frame.
