[Also in Divisions B3, C3 and F4] Surfaces, e.g. moulds, sand or ceramic cores or moulds, graphite or ceramic crucibles, for use in the melting, holding or shaping of molten metal are coated with humic acid or humic acid salts, e.g. the alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salts. The coating may be applied as a dry powder or as an aqueous slurry by brushing, dipping, pouring or spraying. The aqueous slurry may contain baotericidal agents and freezing point depressants.
