Abstract
1,216,191. Ball mills. FOSTER WHEELER JOHN BROWN BOILERS Ltd. 4 Jan., 1968 [5 Jan., 1967], No. 805/67. Heading B2A. New grinding balls are fed from a separate hopper, 30, Fig. 1, from which they roll directly into a scroll feeding device of a ball mill and thence into the crushing drum. The hopper 30 is charged via sealable inlet, with an inner compartmented container 35 in the position shown in Fig. 5A. The hopper is placed in position by a truck 64 and a trough 36 coupled to an inlet pipe 32 of the mill. A valve 33 is opened and a handwheel (not shown) operated so that the container 35 is swivelled to a position in which its outlets 46 which are staggered around its periphery permit balls to run out a few at a time into a passage 56 and thence into the trough 36. The mill can thus be charged, when pressurised with preheated air. Since the balls run down a gentle slope they do not damage the scroll feeding device 14. The system includes a classifier 20.
