Abstract
1,216,031. Training device. R. P. BARTHOL. 1 April, 1969 No. 17052/69. Heading A6D. In a training device comprising a bat and ball in combination, the bat has a longitudinal bore 17, one end of which is closed by a screw plug 18. The other end connects to a smaller bore 19 which carries a sleeve and pin type electrical coupling 21 which connects with a cable and thence to a power supply. The components housed in the bore 17 include an impact switch 25 and a flash tube 26. When the bat hits a ball the impact will cause the movable blade 42 of the switch 25 to move into contact with either blade 39 or 40 thereby completing the circuit and causing the flash tube to momentarily flash. A transverse bore 27 extends from the bore 17 adjacent the flashtube and has in it a glass disc 31. Thus if the batter is looking at the glass disc at the moment of impact he will see the flash and his attention will therefore be focused on that spot. In a second embodiment, the invention is applied to a golf tee, comprising a stand (82) for a ball (73) connected to a rotatable blade (81) having a contact finger (95). When the ball is hit off the stand the blade (81) rotates bringing the contact finger (95) into contact with one of two plates (92 or 93) thus completing the electrical circuit and causing the bulb (102) to flash momentarily.
