Abstract

1,215,875. Toothed and friction gearing. MESUR - MATIC ELECTRONICS CORP. 1 April, 1968 [31 March, 1967; 30 Aug., 1967], No. 15489/68. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division H2] In an electric motor, a wobble plate armature 43 (Fig. 2) or 143 (Fig. 4), supported on an output shaft 35 or 135 by a universal ball-pivot 47 or 147 which is axially slidable on the shaft, is caused to wobble about its pivot by sequential energization of stator poles 20 or 125, 127 arranged in a ring or rings coaxial with the output shaft, the armature 43 or 143 having facial ring gears 50, 49 or 118, 119 engageable respectively with a fixed reaction ring gear 52 or 116 and a ring gear 40 or 140 secured to the output shaft. In Fig. 2, the gears 40, 49 have the same number of teeth, and the gears 50, 52 have slightly different numbers of teeth. In Fig. 4, the gears 119, 140 have slightly different numbers of teeth and the gears 118, 116 may have the same or slightly different numbers of teeth. Alternatively, friction gears may be used, with ridged, knurled, or rubber-faced engaging surfaces. The armature may be rigid or of a flexible material incorporating rigid or powdered magnetic material.
