Abstract

1,111,368. Electric motor driving arrangements. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 2 Feb., 1967 [5 Feb., 1966], No. 5026/67. Heading H2A. A device for ensuring correct direction of rotation of a small synchronous motor, including a ratchet wheel driven by the motor and a pawl which coacts with the ratchet wheel and which is pivotable about a shaft to a limited extent, the pawl coacting with the ratchet wheel in the undesired direction of rotation and being clear of the ratchet wheel in the desired direction of rotation, is characterized in that the pawl is resiliently connected to an arm so that the pawl is resilient in a direction approximately concentric with the ratchet wheel periphery, the shaft about which the pawl arm is pivotable to a limited extent forming part of a rotary disc driven by the motor and the pawl arm being connected to the shaft by a friction coupling. As shown, it is assumed that the motor has started in the wrong (counter-clockwise) direction. Pawl 13, 9, thereupon engages a tooth of ratchet wheel 4 mounted on the shaft of rotor 1. The pawl is connected by resilient rods 11, 12 to a pawl arm 8 whose hub 7 is frictionally secured to gear-wheel 6 meshing with gear-wheel 5 on the rotor shaft. The resilient mounting 11, 12 ensures that the pawl 13, 9 first tends to be urged circumferentially counter-clockwise and then imparts a clockwise impulse to ratchet wheel 4. Thereupon, the motor starts in the correct direction, and gear-wheel 6, now rotating counter-clockwise, carries pawl arm 8 around with it until arm 8 is stopped at 14, clear of ratchet wheel 4. Preferably the rotor 1 is made of sintered oxidic ferromagnetic material. Stator poles 2 are provided.
