Abstract

1,215,432. Reciprocating pumps. W. LEEDS and L. A. MICALLEF, [trading as LEEDS & MICALLEF], Feb.14, 1969, No.8179/69. Heading F1A. A dispensing pump for liquids, pastes or gases for mounting in the neck 12 of a container 11, comprises a diaphragm 52 reciprocated by a plunger 86, fluid from container 11 entering pumping chamber 76 via dip tube 42, ball valve 36 and clearance around plunger extension 84, and being discharged via port 90, which is uncovered by flexing of diaphragm portion 68 during the discharge stroke and covered during the suction stroke, and plunger bore 86 leading to spray nozzle 110. Locking of the actuating, assembly is effected by engagement of radial ribs 122 in cap 15 with notches 126 in peripheral lugs 124 on actuating button 102, engagement and disengagement being effected by appropriate rotation of button 102. The container is vented during pump operation via clearances beween plunger 86 and cap 15, and passages 78, 44 and 46, lip 66 on the diaphragm seating against cap surface 17 to prevent leakage during transit.
