Abstract
1,214,801. Torpedoes. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. 23 Aug., 1965, No. 36149/65. Heading B7A. In a remotely controlled torpedo, electric signals are transmitted over a wire connected between the torpedo tube in the submarine, and the torpedo. A flexible protective tube, through which the wire passes, is capable of uncoiling with the wire but extends for only a limited distance from the submarine. When the torpedo reaches this distance from the torpedo tube, a coupling at the torpedo opens, and the torpedo proceeds, together with the control wire, beyond the end of the protective tube. The arrangement provides protection for the control wire in the vicinity of the vessel and occupies a minimum space prior to firing. Beyond the protective tube, the control wire lies freely in the water. After the torpedo has hit the target, the protective tube is separated from the submarine by a severing device in the torpedo tube.
