Abstract
1,214,799. Evaporators, flash type; desalination of water. HITACHI Ltd. 28 July, 1969 [29 July, 1968], No. 37739/69. Heading B1B. In an evaporator comprising a series of flash chambers separated by partitions each having an orifice in 'the lower part thereof, at least one chamber contains a weir 26 spaced from the outlet side of the feed orifice 251, the upper region of the weir is provided with apertures or holes 27a, 27b, and a baffle 28' extends over the weir. The liquid being evaporated, e.g. brine, passes through the orifice 251 in partition 8, and partially flashes into vapour as it flows up the channel 32 between the partition and the weir. Some of the mixture of vapour and brine passes through the holes 27a, 27b in the weir, and some of the mixture flows down the divergent channel 29' between the weir and baffle 28'. The streams of vapour/brine mixture from holes 27a, 27b, mixes with the stream in channel 29' so that agitation and further flash evaporation occur. The vapour separates from the brine below baffle 33, and the vapour rises to a condenser (not shown). The lower part of partition 8 may be formed so that the orifice is upwardly inclined.
