Abstract
1,217,276. Evaporators, film-type. BRITISH LAUNDERERS' RESEARCH ASSOCIATION AND DYERS & CLEANERS RESEARCH ORGANISATION Ltd. 29 April, 1969 [31 May, 1968], No. 26309/68. Heading B1B. Liquid is evaporated by feeding it through inlet 11 into the evaporator shown, wherein the liquid flows through vertical slots in weir 8 and then flows in film-form down the inner surface of vertical tube 1 which is heated by steam-jacket 2 and leads to an outlet duct 20, 21 forming a U-tube with tube 1. A predetermined level of liquid is maintained in tube 1 by opening the valve 22-25 located at the corresponding level of duct 21, e.g. liquidlevel 29 corresponds to valve 24 being open. Some of the liquid is evaporated from the falling-film, and some from the body of liquid in the lower part of tube 1. As a result, any unevaporated droplets fall to the gottom of tube 1 and are subject to a further evaporation process. The vapours pass through steel-mesh demister 12 and outlet-duct 15 to a condenser. Unevaporated liquid is discharged through outlet 28. An example relates to a feed mixture comprising perchloroethylene containing 3% oily soil and 0.4% of a detergent.
