Abstract

In an oil-sealed rotary vacuum pump comprising a housing 7 having a suction passage 11 connected to the space to be evacuated and a discharge passage 6 fitted with a discharge valve and a rotor slidably mounting vanes 10 which sweep the housing wall 8, the valve body 5 is supported in the housing 7 by resilient members 4. When evacuation is almost complete, oil only is being discharged and since oil is substantially incompressible the valve repeatedly opens at each sweep of a vane. The resilient members damps the transmission of valve movement to the housing and reduces noise. Alternatively the valve body 5 and resilient members 4 may be made in one piece.
