Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A blower unit 6 for a drying chamber comprises at least one axial fan 10, a support ring or casing comprising a circular section 8 and an extension 18, surrounding the blades of the fan and supporting the fan motor 9, trunnions or shafts 11, 12 to support the ring for pivotal movement between two positions facing in opposite directions whereby upon rotation of the fan the reaction forces of the fan tend to pivot the support ring on said trunnions, and means to retain the fan in position comprising a stop element 20 constituting the armature of an electromagnet 19, the stop element 20 projecting into the path of the support ring when the electromagnet 19 is deenergized to hold the fan in either of its two positions, and the stop element 20 allowing pivotal movement of the support ring when the electromagnet is energized. In Fig. 1 the blower 6 is mounted in an elliptical opening in partition wall 13 of drying kiln 1 and the stacks of wood 7 on trolleys are dried by circulation of air heated by heater 5, the direction of circulation of the air being reversed when the blower unit is pivoted through 180 degrees.
