Abstract

1,213,710. Projectile fuzes. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 5 April, 1968 [7 April, 1967], No. 16650/68. Heading F3A. A projectile to be fired from a barrel comprises a cylindrical housing 12, Fig. 1, and a fuze comprising a firing pin 6 and a primer 1, one of which is fixed and the other of which is axially displaceable, and a locking means 19 rigidly held in a radial bore by an axially displaceable safety rod 18 which extends in an axial blind hole 17 to the rear of the housing, the rod being arranged to automatically release the locking means upon emergence of the projectile from the barrel whereby the firing pin and primer can come into contact upon impact of the projectile with a target. The projectile is mounted in a cartridge case 5 and the safety' rod is secured by a disc 16 which drops away after emergence of the projectile from the barrel. Braking elements (26, Fig. 5b, not shown) extendable from within the disc ensure rapid dropping away of the disc. The displacement of the safety rod and the locking means can be assisted by springs. A compression spring can be provided between the primer and firing pin. The locking means comprises a ball or pin. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the projectile is connected to a base element 13 by a disc having a projection 23 and a projection 21 formed with an annular bead 22 which is sheared off upon igniting a propellant 15. The safety rod is displaced through a bore 25 in the disc.
