[Also in Division D1] A binder for friction linings comprises a thermosetting phenol-, cresol- or xylenolformaldehyde resin prepared from a reaction mixture including from 1 to 15% by weight of a nylon polyamide based on the weight of the phenol, cresol or xylenol. The lining includes a filler such as loose woven cloth or yarn of asbestos and wire or asbestos fibre.
