Abstract
1,213,214. Cutting-out presses. FREY, WIEDERKEHR & CIE A.G. 29 May, 1968 [29 May, 1967], No. 25726/68. Heading B4B. A method of die cutting blanks from a stack of sheets 22 comprising the steps of clamping the stack along an edge, partially suspending the stack in an inclined plane on an inclined support table 18 and pressing a die 16 through the stack in a direction normal to the inclined plane. The table 18 is pivotably mounted on a carriage 19 and is adjustable between a horizontal position and an inclined position in line with a stationary table surface 59 mounted on a machine bed 11, the adjustment being effected by means of a ram 83, 84, 85. The carriage is provided with rollers 77 which run on tracks 78 and is movable by means of a ram 80. The die 16 is carried by a box-shaped member 43, 44, 47 which is mounted on a plate 31 connected to a piston 29 slidable in a cylinder 27; the die can be rotated about the axis of the piston by means of an electric motor driving a pinion 39 meshing with teeth formed on the plate 31. A blank-holding element 23 is mounted on a piston 50, Fig. 9, which is movable in one direction to grip the blanks by hydraulic fluid fed through a pipe 55 and, in the other direction to release the blanks, by compressed air. The die 16 co-operates with a backing plate 63 e.g. of wood mounted on a disc 61 which can be raised or lowered by means of screws rotated via sprockets 68 and a chain 69. A lower blank-holding element 24 is actuated in a similar way to the element 23 except that the force applied to the element 24 is greater so that the stack of blanks is lifted out of the stack of sheets against the action of the element 23 as shown in Fig. 9. The stack of blanks is removed from between the elements 23, 24 by means of a power-operated tongs device 25. The stack of sheets is held, at its top edge, by means of a clamping device including a pair of pivoted jaws 109, 111, Fig. 11, actuated by means of a ram 116, 118, the device being mounted on a carriage 89 movable on the table 18 via an hydraulic motor 87 and a feed screw 91; four pairs of identical clamping devices are mounted on the carriage. A stop member 123 is provided against which the edges of the sheets are initially aligned, the stop being movable by means of a ram 100. The stack of sheets is loaded on the table 18 when the latter is in the horizontal position as shown in Fig. 11, compressed air being fed through holes (60, Fig. 10) in the table in order to facilitate movement of the sheets. The various hydraulic and pneumatic rams are controlled by solenoid valves actuated in response to control equipment such as a computer.
