Abstract
1,213,135. Gas scrubbing. AJEM LABORATORIES Inc. 16 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 47091/67. Heading B1R. Dust-laden gases, e.g. from a cupolafurnace 10, are passed into a downcomer 12 in which they are first saturated with water vapour by passage through a curtain of water formed by a group of rotary spray-generators, two of which 52 and 54 are shown, each spraygenerator producing a fan-shaped pattern of spray, before being cooled in the lower part of the downcomer to condense some of the water vapour in the gases, thereafter the gases pass into an upwardly extending limb of a conduit 30 and then downwardly to a scrubber 32 a droplet eliminator 38 and a stack 40. Air may .be added to the gases by means of a tangentially-directed inlet located a short distance below sprays 52 and 54 and the mixture is passed through a funnel-shaped insertion in the downcomer to promote mixing. Dust and water are removed from sump 16. The scrubber 32 is preferably of the rotating-cage type.
