Abstract

1,213,027. Moulding articles with controlled flash. SAUNDERS VALVE CO. Ltd. 17 June, 1969 [28 June, 1968], No. 31016/68. Heading B5A. Articles are moulded with peripheral flash having a thin membrane portion of radial extent not more than 0À003 inch connected to the article and a portion, the thickness of which increases outwardly from the article, connected to the outer edge of the membrane portion. The flash is thus easily broken at the membrane portion and even if all of the membrane portion remains attached to the article the residual flash of up to 0À003 inch is within tolerable limits. In one embodiment a rubber 0-ring is moulded between mould halves 2 and 3 provided with ring forming cavities 1 and flash forming cavities 4 and 5. The flash formed in cavities 4 and 5 is interconnected and connected to the article by thin membranes formed between the opposing flat faces of the mould.
