Abstract
1,212,985. Casting - machines; moulds. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 25 March, 1968 [5 April, 1967], No. 15679/67. Heading B3F. A mould (11) has an impression (12) of an intercell connector 13 for batteries. The intercell connector 13 has two comb-like portions 14 with contacts 15 for the individual battery cells, and a U-shaped portion (which fits over the intercell wall of the battery), perpendicular to the combs 14. The mould 11 has a pivotable core (17) which forms the recesses in the U- shaped portion 14 of the casting. Casting- ejecting push-rods 19 are situated in bores (18) and a core-freeing push-rod 22 is situated in a bore (21). In casting (see Fig. 6), a series of moulds 11 are spaced on a conveyer 23 and are each mated with one of a series of metal inlet manifolds 26 spaced on a conveyer 24 situated directly above the first conveyer 23. The moulds 11 are filled at a metal pouring station 25 and separated from the inlet manifolds 26 at the end of the conveyers. On inversion of the mould 11, the core (17) pivots out of the casting (13) to enable it to be ejected by push-rods 19 at ejection station 27. If the core (17) sticks in the casting (13), it is freed by the push-rod 22 at the ejection station 27.
