Abstract

1,212,691. Cam-operated switches. WESSEL & CO. A.S. 14 Dec., 1967 [14 Dec., 1966], No. 56924/67. Heading H1N. A switch has resilient contact levers 40, 41, 40<SP>1</SP>, 41<SP>1</SP> controlled by radial cams 21 on a shaft (22, Fig. 2) mounted in an insulating wall 1 and co-operating fixed contacts (42, Fig. 2), 45, mounted in an insulating wall 2, and walls 1, 2 interconnected by a sheet-metal bottom plate 4 and a sheet-metal U-shaped yoke 3 having a bottom portion 5 and legs 6, 6 and extending along three edges of each of the walls 1, 2, so that the arrangement defines a closed switch chamber. Legs 6, 6 engage flanges 7 on plate 4, have flanges 8 engaging behind ribs on walls 1, 2, Fig. 3, and have lugs 9 bent into recesses 10 in plate 4. Walls 1, 2 have recesses (11, 12, Fig. 2) receiving lugs (13, 14) on portion 5, and recesses 15 (16) receiving lugs 17 (18) on plate 4. Extensions 23 of legs 6, 6 provided with offset parts 24 are resiliently inserted in slots in a support, e.g. room heater or cooker, and thereafter bent. A five-position indexing wheel 25 co-operates with a roller 26 on a shaft 27 radially loaded (at 29, Fig. 2). Roller 26 and shaft 27 are mounted in an insulating housing 28 which has grooves 36 receiving flanges 35 on plate 4. The upper fixed contacts (42) are formed on a common member (43) inserted in a slot in wall 2 from the inside and fixed by stops (X) and a resilient tongue (74). Lower fixed contacts 45 are formed on members 46 and have stops Y and tongues 47, and may also be fixed by glue. The outer ends of members (43), 46 comprise flat plugs for connection to sleeve terminals. Contact levers 40, 41 and 40<SP>1</SP>, 41<SP>1</SP>, respectively comprise a single leaf-spring slotted to form two levers; and each spring has a flange riveted to terminals 37. Alternatively, a seven-position switch may have six contact levers provided on two leaf springs (Fig. 9) mounted similarly to the fixed contacts. Thin insulating plates may be provided inside the legs 6, or the yoke 3 and plate 4 may be internally coated with an insulating lacquer.
