Abstract
1,212,656. Lubricants. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 22 July, 1969 [14 Oct., 1968], No. 36716/69. Heading C5F. [Also in Division C3] Lubricating oil and hydraulic fluid compositions comprise products obtained by reacting (A) an amorphous phosphosulphurized ethylene/ propylene/1,4-hexadiene terpolymer of molecular weight distribution less than 8 and weight average molecular weight 3500 to 65,000 and comprising 35 to 70 weight per cent of propylene and 1 to 6 weight per cent 1,4-hexadiene, the balance being ethylene, arid (B) an amine of formula H 2 N(CH 2 ) x NRR 1 where x is 2 or 3 and R and R 1 are C 1-4 alkyl. The additives have VI improving, detergent, anti-corrosion, antioxidant and anti-wear properties and improve the performance of conventional extreme pressure additives. The oils may be paraffinic or naphthenic mineral oils, and the additives may be incorporated in the form of concentrates. In examples reaction products of phosphosulphurized terpolymers and N,N-dimethyl-l,3- propylenediamine are incorporated in mineral oils, optionally with dialkyl dithiophosphates and high base calcium petroleum sulphonates.
