Abstract

1,212,357. Packaging. F. IVALDI. 20 Oct., 1967, No. 47873/67. Heading B8C. A method for removing from and/or feeding to a hide and or skin treating machine comprises transporting the hides and or skins on an endless conveyer belt 1 between the machine and a flexible web 28 which is moved in step with the belt 1 while being wound between first and second reels 17, 18, the web 28 being wound from the first reel 17 to the second reel 18 when removing the hides or skins from the machine, hides or skins then being fed on to the web 28 between the reels 17, 18 and the web 28 being received on the second reel 18 together with the hides or skins, the web being wound from the second reel 18 to the first reel 17 to feed the hides or skins to the machine and the hides or skins being wound on to the second reel 18 with the web 28, then being transferred to the belt, to be delivered by the belt to the machine. As shown, skins are received on to the belt 1 and pass beneath a section 28A of web 28, moving in step with the conveyer to reel 18 on to which the skins and the web are wound until the loaded reel attains a predetermined size 18A. The web 28 is drawn from a reel 17 which is driven by a spring loaded roller 7 which is itself driven through a chain 15 by a roller 8. The roller 8 is driven through rollers 12-14 from the conveyer 1 and drives the reel 18. The reels 17, 18 and a pressure roller 24 are carried by an A-frame which straddles the conveyer 1 and which is removable therefrom. The direction of movement of the conveyer is reversible to unload skins form the reel 18 on to the conveyer for feeding into a machine adjacent a roller 2. The rollers 7, 8 are faced with sponge rubber strips 32 laid as two symmetrical helices.
