Abstract
1,212,332. Measuring speed of rotation electrically. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Jan.10, 1969, No.1647/69. Heading G1N. To determine the angular speed and direction of rotation of a shaft, a non-magnetic extension thereof carries the secondary winding 24 Fig. 2 of a transformer 72 and the rotor winding 20 of a synchro, the two windings being inter-connected electrically by leads 40. The primary winding 52 of the transformer is fed with 10 Kc/s A. C. whereby the 3-phase secondary windings 50 of the synchro develop output voltages comprising the 10 Kc/s carrier frequency amplitude-modulated at a frequency determined by the speed of rotation. The phase sequence of the voltages in the 3-phase windings indicates the direction of rotation. The apparatus may be used to measure the stationary angular position of the shaft.
