Abstract

1,212,283. Photographic non-silver printout or photo-developable compositions. HORIZONS. Inc. Aug.29, 1968 [Dec.26, 1967], No.41343/68. Heading G2C. A non-silver, photographic print-out or photodevelopable composition which may be heat-fixed contains (1) one or more dye-forming compounds of the formula:- wherein R 1 and R 2 are each hydrogen or an alkyl radical; each Ar is a p-phenylene, naphthylene or diphenylene radical; and R 3 and R 4 are each H, alkyl or aryl; (2) one or more organic halogen compounds of the formula ACQ 3 where Q is Cl, Br or I and A is H, Cl, Br or I, alkyl or substituted alkyl, aryl, or substituted aryl or aroyl; and (3) at least one thiol, pyrazolone or acetanilide which forms a coloured image by reaction with a compound (1) above when the composition is exposed and developed. The presence in the composition of a thiol gives a blue image, a pyrazolone gives a red to violet image and an acetanilide gives a green image. By using a combination of colourforming compounds, a neutral or black image may be obtained. Representative specified compositions contain 1:1-bis-(p-dimethyl-aminophenyl) ethylene and iodoform and as colour-forming compounds, 2-mercapto-acetanilide (as a thiol), 1-phenyl-3- amino-pyrazol-5-one or acetoacetanilide. Also present are 2:6-di-t-butyl-p-cresol, 4-picoline- N-oxide, triphenylstibine and as a binder styrene in benzene.
