Abstract

1,212,196. Locks. CHUBB & SON'S LOCK & SAFE CO. Ltd. 19 Feb., 1968 [27 Feb., 1967], No. 9145/67. Heading E2A. The levers of a key operated lever lock are rotatably mounted on a common pivot member 10 which is engageable with a part (i.e. a pivot stump) of the lock so that the pack so formed can be exchanged for a different pack. The pivot member 10 has one end shaped to engage releasably the base 5 of a holder by which the pack is engaged with the look part, the holder base in use being arranged in a plane parallel to the planes in which the levers are rotatable and from which projects a limb 7 to prevent rotation of the levers. In the construction shown in Fig. 110 the holder has two projecting limbs 7, 8 extending from one surface of the base and extending from the other surface there is a tube 6, the base being apertured in alignment with the bore of the tube. The common pivot member 10 for the levers is a bush and one end portion of the bush enters the hole in the base and the bore of the bush is engaged with a force fit by the end portion of the shank of a plug 13 which extends through the tube 6 with the head 14 engaging the outer end of the tube; the pack is thus held in place on the base and the normal strip springs of the levers engage the limb 8 and hold the levers against the limb 7. When the pack is to be engaged with the pivot stump in the lock casing the existing pack of levers is first removed by sliding them off the pivot stump then the replacement pack in the holder is mounted by sliding the outer end portion of the bush 10 onto the pivot stump and pressing the assembly against the base of the casing which displaces the plug 13 from engagement with the bush 10; the plug 13 can then be removed and with the operator holding down the pack of levers by finger pressure the holder is slid from the pack and the exchange operation is complete. A lock using two such packs of levers 3, 4 as shown in Fig. 1, the two packs being operable by different keys. The lock has a movable rear cover plate 15 for access to the packs, one of the levers 17 of the second pack engaging the cover plate to prevent removal of the plate except when the key of the second pack has been operated to unlock the lock. The cover plate has a hookshaped projection 18 with which the lever 17 engages. The opposite end of the plate has a tongue and groove connector at 19 with the casing of the lock.
