Abstract

1,212,142. Direct-positive silver halide photographic emulsion. RICOH K.K. March 11,1969 No.12825/69. Heading G2C. A direct-positive, photographic material comprises a support coated with a silver halide gelatine emulsion which contains less than 3% by weight of gelatine. The said material may be a colour material where the silver halide is dye-sensitized. The material may be a tripack direct-positive colour photographic material wherein each layer comprises a silver halide gelatine emulsion containing less than 3% by weight of gelatine. The directpositive material of the present invention is prepared by dispersing silver halide in an aqueous solution containing less than 3% by weight of gelatine, ripening the emulsion at temperatures between 50‹ C and the emulsion boiling point, coating the ripened emulsion on to a support and immediately air drying the product at a temperature between 50‹ C and 140‹ C. In the case of the said colour-material the ripened silver halide gelatine emulsion is mixed with a sensitizing dye and a coupler before coating it on to the support. The sensitive material thus obtained shows a strong tendency to solarization, i.e. considerable reversal of tonal contrast when exposed to light.
