Stoppering.-Relates to machines for filling bags, cartons, or other recept a c 1 e s with powdered material, of the kind in which holders for the receptacles are raised to a feeding - nozzle by a plunger and consists mainly in means for applying closures to the receptacles. The receptacle holders k are mounted in a rotary table i and are raised to the nozzle b by a plunger d which controls, by mechanism such as a toggle e and a lever h, a clutch c for coupling the driving- shaft p to a feed-device or screw in the nozzle. Closures, such as cardboard disks, are stored in a magazine 2 arranged over a rotary disk 3 or other intermittently moved member for transferring a closure from the bottom of the pile to a position over a charged receptacle. The closure is pressed into the receptacle by a pusher 10 which is secured to a rod 9 carried by a lever 7, operated by a cam 8 on a shaft n. To ensure register of the receptacle and the closure, the receptacle-holder is raised into contact with a plate 4 by a rod, operated by a lever which engages the lever 7. The rod 9 carries also a pusher 11 for ejecting a closured receptacle from the table. The rod 9 may operate, by means of levers 13, a pusher 12 for pressing a receptacle to the bottom of its holder. The table j is rotated by means of a pawl q, Fig. 2, carried by a slide r which is connected by a link s to a slotted lever t engaging a crank u on the shaft n. The table is normally locked by a detent v which is released by a roller w on the slide. The disk 3 is rotated by the engagement of a pin 15 on the table j with a notched plate 14. A detent 16 engages the plate. The plunger d is depressed positively at the end of the return stroke by means of a lever x, Fig. 2, actuated by a cam y on the shaft n. The receptacles are detached from the nozzle b by means of a collar z on a rod 1 which is depressed by the plunger. The shaft n is provided with a clutch m geared to a shaft l which is driven from the shaft p by a belt o, a device being provided for throwing in the clutch m when the feedscrew is stationary. This device may consist of a lever 18 which co-operates with a stop-pin 21 on the clutch m and is connected by means of a lever 20 and a link 19 to the lever h.
