Abstract

[Also in Divisions B2 and D1] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula wherein R 1 is an aliphatic radical containing at most 6 carbon atoms substituted by a carboxyalkyl ester group containing up to 6 carbon atoms or by a cyano group, R 2 is an aliphatic radical containing at least 6 carbon atoms uninterrupted or interrupted by an -O- or -NH- bridge, R 3 is a C 1-3 alkylene radical, R 4 is a C 1-4 alkyl radical and X- is a monoalkyl sulphate or halogen ion. The compounds are prepared by quaternizing an amine of the formula with an alkyl ester R 4 X. The amine starting material may be prepared by reacting an amine R 1 R 2 NH with epichlorohydrin or 1,3-dichloropropan-2-ol. The compounds of the invention are used to prevent the accumulation of electrostatic charges on doped articles.
