Abstract

1,211,734. Coated fabrics. F. H. SWAYN. 28 Nov., 1968 [1 Dec., 1967], No. 54843/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Division Dl] A fabric is treated with a water-soluble detergent solution and dried by heat treatment to leave a pliable protective coating of detergent on the fabric. The detergent may be non- ionic, may have a pH of not greater than 6, may include an optical brightener and an effervescent agent which remains in the protective coating upon drying of the fabric. The fabric is washed by first rinsing in clean water to remove the detergent coating followed by application of the water-soluble detergent solution and drying by heat-treatment to leave a fresh protective coating of detergent on the fabric. Before rinsing, the coating may be caused to foam by applying thereto a hydrogen peroxide solution followed by an oxygenrelease agent, e.g. sodium hydrosulphite, effective to release oxygen in the coating.
