Abstract

1,211,372. Engine with exhaust driven superchargers. C.A.V. Ltd. May 27, 1968 [June 13, 1967], No.27299/67. Heading FIB. An exhaust driven turbocharger 16 drives afirst compressor 11 feeding the engine inlet manifold and a second compressor 12 supplying air or combustible mixture to a combustion chamber 15 in the exhaust pipe, the burnt gases from chamber 15 being supplied to the turbine 16 to supplement the engine exhaust gases at low engine speeds. Fuel may be added to the air entering compressor 12 by a carburetter 18; alternatively fuel may be injected directly into the chamber 15.
