Abstract

1,211,001. Endless conveyers. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. and E. S. DOERMAN. 22 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 52839/66. Heading B8A. Cigarettes in a high density stream on a conveyer 1 are converted, without change of orientation, into two low density streams respectively on a conveyer 2 and a conveyer 2a in line with the conveyer 1. Alternate cigarettes on the conveyer 1 are picked up by flutes of a drum 3. The flutes have the same pitch as that of the cigarettes on the conveyer 1 but suction is applied only to every other flute. A helical guide moves the cigarettes to a position in line with the conveyer 2. Transfer between the drum 3 and the conveyer 2 is effected by a suction drum 5. Suction in the drum 3 is conserved by arranging suction holes in the flutes of the drum 3 at suitably spaced positions, and by having a fixed suction sleeve inside the drum 3. The fixed sleeve has a plurality of suction slots lying on a helical path on the circumference of the drum.
