A piezoelectric ceramic material comprises a plurality of oxide represented by wherein 0<x<1, 0#y#0À8, 0#z#0À8 and the sum of x, y and z is unity, and up to 3% by weight of MnO 2 . Up to 15 mole per cent of the Pb can be replaced by Ca, Sr or Ba and/or 0À1 to 3 wt. per cent of lanthanum oxide can be included.
