Abstract
1,210,646. Transformers. INDUCTOSYN Ltd. 10 Jan., 1969, No. 1499/69. Heading HIT. A rotary or linear position-measuring transformer comprises two relatively movable winding carriers 3, 11 (Fig. 1) a first one of which, 3 carries at last two winding arrangements 4, 6 which may be disposed one on top of the other as shown or may be co-planar (e.g. in concentric arrays, Fig. 13, not shown) the other winding carrier having at least one winding arrangement inductively related to the winding arrangements on the first carrier 3, Figs. 2 and 3, show sectors of the lower and upper winding arrangements on the first carrier member (the stator) whilst Fig. 5 shows diagrammatically the relative location of the winding sectors of Figs. 2 and 3. Adjacent sectors in each layer are connected to be parts of sine and cosine windings the arrangements in the two layers placing sine sectors immediately above cosine sectors and cosine sectors above sine sectors, the sectors of the upper layer being interconnected with the sectors of the same phase in the lower layer as indicated by the references C 1 -C 8 and S 1 -S 8 in Fig. 6. Fig. 6 also shows a single continuous winding 38 on the rotor but two such windings may be used (Fig. 12, not shown). Alternatively the rotor may have two windings in quadrature (sine and cosine windings) the sine and cosine windings on each winding carrier being coupled magnetically to those on the other carrier but not to each other. The two winding arrangements on the stator may be concentric and coplanar (Fig. 13, not shown). The stator may have three windings arrangements in three layers each layer comprising three phases (Fig. 11, not shown). The winding carriers may be of magnetic material or metal.
