Abstract

1,210,553. Magnetic heads. SOC. D'INSTRUMENTATION SCHLUMBERGER. 3 Jan., 1968, No. 511/68. Heading G5R. A multiple magnetic head comprises a parallel array of half-cores 2, 4 whose inner peripheries each have a flat surface 16 set back relative to the gap face 14 and arranged to abut a spacer 18 common to all the heads to thereby define the gap width. As shown, laminated half-cores 2, 4 are located by non-magnetic spacers 18, 20 having slots to locate the polepieces 10, the spacers being located in grooves 19 in a casing 17. The surface 16 is taken as a reference for machining the ends 14, 12 of the half-cores. The lower ends 12 of the half-cores abut a common mica strip 34 sandwiched between ceramic plates 30, 32 carrying windings printed about apertures into which the half-cores extend (Fig. 2, not shown). Springs 29 urge the core parts together. The assembly is inverted, the base 42 removed and the casing 17 filled with encapsulant which may also be located in the air gaps.
