[Also in Division F2] Apparatus for grooving and trimming the socket 6 formed on the end of an extruded clay pipe, comprises a rotatable disc 18 mounted for rotation about a journal 2 mounted on a table 1 located below the end of the pipe socket, said disc having a greater diameter than the external diameter of the pipe socket, a vertical shaft 21 extending through said disc, a double-armed lever 22 mounted on the lower end of said shaft, an hydraulic piston and cylinder-assembly 23 connected to one end of said lever, a resilient return device 24, 28, 30 connected to the other end of said lever, a lever arm 26 carrying a grooving roller 27 connected to the upper end of said shaft and means for cutting the socket to the desired length. A drum 20 is provided on the upper side of the disc 18 and cutter element 33 comprising obliquely arranged blades of variable inclination are attached to arms 31 of adjustable length mounted on the drum. Disc 18 is surrounded by a vertical wall 5 on which elements 9 defining the pipe socket walls are mounted and an arm 39 extruding through a gap in the wall 5 removes cut-off clay sections from the rotating disc. The disc is driven by hydraulic motor 15 acting through gear chain 13, 14, 12 on hubs 10, 11 attached to the disc and the piston and cylinder assembly 23 is actuated by fluid supplied through passages 34, 35, 36 in the journal 2 and bearings. In operation a clay pipe is extruded into contact with the fixed pattern 3 and forms a socket 6 as shown. The cutter blades 33 are rotated and strip clay from the bottom of the socket forming a clean edge. Extrusion is stopped and hydraulic fluid pushed into piston and cylinder 23, compressing spring 30 into container 28 and forcing the grooving roller 27 gently into contact with the pipe, the rotation of the apparatus forming the grooves. The hydraulic pressure is released through a constriction so that the return spring 30 moves the roller 27 slowly away from the pipe socket.
