Abstract

1,182,388. Granulating by extrusion. BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 4 March, 1968 [6 March, 1967], No. 10323/68. Heading B5A. Thermoplastic material is granulated by the vertical upward or downward screw extrusion thereof through apertures in the flat surface 12 of a stationary cross-head 5, in contact with which surface 12 revolve the blades 29 of a cutter head 28 mounted to a granulating chamber 13. Cooling liquid is pumped, via pipe 15, through the cross-head 5 and is deflected by a baffle 14 into the cutting plane and is discharged from chamber 13 via an outlet 26. The chamber 13 is mounted on a bearer 16 which is vertically displaceable on pillars 9, 10, via a pair of hydraulic piston jacks, into sealing engagement with the cross-head 5, and the cutter head 28 is in addition vertically displaceable into the cutting position by a compressed air device 32; final cutter setting and adjustment, as observed through inspection windows, being effected by a hand wheel 33. The cutter is driven by a motor and gear-box arrangement mounted on the bearer 16.
