Equipment carried on a vehicle to give instructions to the driver from a pre-recorded record of the route to be followed comprises a transducer 1 for converting distance measurements into electrical pulses, an electronic counter and converter 3 for receiving the pulses and converting them into pre-set fractions of a mile (or other measurement), an electronic counter 4 arranged to count under the control of the converted pulses and to give a signal on reaching a numerical value of zero, and a control and audio playback unit 5 having starting and stopping means responsive to the zero signal and being also adapted to give control signals, e.g. from pre-recorded tones, to the counter 4.
